Power quality impacts at an insurance company

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:376823
In the Con Edison Service area, a high percentage of electric load is comprised of older commercial buildings supplied at the 120/208 volt level. Since most of these buildings have long circuit runs within the facility, users of computers and other sensitive loads may experience power quality problems. Poor voltage regulation, high common mode noise, and high voltage distortion are among the problems experienced on the power distribution system within many of these buildings. Also, significant energy losses associated with poor voltage regulation within the building are also possible. It is believed that significant improvements in both power quality and energy efficiency may be possible by upgrading portions of the buildings internal voltage supply. This Con Edison/EPRI cofunded project will quantify the technical and economic benefits that are possible through a potential voltage upgrade.
