Catalytic methanol-steam reforming is being considered as a method of producing hydrogen-rich gas for transportation or motive power purposes. Many of these applications also involve fuel-cells to convert the chemical energy to electrical energy. This present work reports on a steady-state model to predict the production of hydrogen for utilization in a proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel-cell system. The model presented in this paper is used as a platform for dynamic modeling procedures for the methanol reformer, and will be incorporated in an overall package aimed at improved design, development, analysis, and control of methanol-steam reformer systems.
