In this paper, artificial neural network based condition monitoring systems (CMS) suitable for nonlinear dynamical plants are developed. The need for neural network based CMS are discussed. Autonomous intelligent control based on neural network plant identification has been the area of much recent research. CMS based on neural network plant identification is, however, the emphasis of this paper. The proposed methods are applied to a simulated plant for illustration. The results that suggest neural network based CMS constructively complement the other approaches to condition monitoring.
