Measurement of the charged and neutral B meson lifetimes
The authors present updated results of the charged and neutral B meson lifetimes using B mesons produced in {bar p}p collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV. For these measurements, they use fully reconstructed B {yields} {psi}{sup ({prime})}K{sup (*)} events recorded by the CDF experiment during the Run 1 tevatron collider run (1992 - 1995) at Fermilab. They obtain the charged and neutral B meson decay length distributions by directly measuring the secondary vertex position using the CDF silicon vertex detectors. Fitting the resulting c{tau} distributions yields the lifetimes of the B{sup {+-}} and B{sup 0}, respectively. Finally, they calculate the lifetime ratio and compared it to previous measurements and theoreticaL expectations.
