The {sup 6}Li(p,{gamma}){sup 7}Be reaction at 80-0 keV
The {sup 6}Li(p,{gamma}){sup 7}Be reaction has been studied using polarized protons with a lab energy of 80keV. The protons were stopped in the 99% {sup 6}Li target. Polarized beam currents of about 30 microamperes and polarizations of about 0.7 were used with the beam polarization being flipped at a rate of 10Hz. The gamma rays were detected by a large HPGe detector and a BGO detector. Analyzing powers and cross sections were measured for gamma rays to the ground and first excited states of {sup 7}Be at 0, 45{degrees}, and 90{degrees}. Preliminary results indicate a much smaller analyzing power than previously observed for the {sup 7}Li(p,{gamma}){sup 8}Be reaction at 80 keV. The measurements will be compared to direct capture model calculations, and the results will be used to extract an astrophysical S-factor for this reaction.
