New physics searches at HERA
HERA, the world`s only ep collider, provides collisions between 27 GeV electrons and 820 GeV protons at the DESY laboratory in Hamburg, Germany. With a center of mass energy of 300 GeV and a reach in the squared four-momentum transfer (Q{sup 2}) 100 times greater than any previous ep collisions, HERA provides unique opportunities to search for exotic particles and to probe physics beyond the Standard Model. Searches for leptoquarks, leptogluons, R-parity violating squarks, excited electrons, excited neutrinos, excited quarks, and heavy neutrinos have been performed by both H1 and ZEUS collaborations. Limits on the coupling and masses will be presented for excited fermions produced in the t-channel and coupling to a fermion and a gauge boson, and leptoquarks (leptogluons) produced in the s-channel and coupling to a lepton and a quark (gluon). Recent increases in HERA luminosity have increased data samples to 3 pb{sup {minus}1}, providing a probe of neutral current and charged current deep-inelastic reactions at high Q{sup 2} > 1000 GeV{sup 2}. This region is sensitive to physics beyond the Standard Model, and measurements of the H1 and ZEUS differential cross sections will be presented.
