Search for t{bar t} production in the all-jets channel at D0

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:374952
The authors present preliminary results from a search for the top quark in all-jet final states. In the Standard Model, a top quark decays to a b-quark and a W boson. Their study focuses on a search for t{bar t} pairs in the decay modes in which each W decays into two lighter quarks, with all the quarks fragmenting into jets observed in the detector. In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 13 pb{sup {minus}1}, the authors compare the characteristics of multijet production with those expected for top. In addition to using the differences in these characteristics to minimize background and enhance any top signal in the data, the authors examine the effect of requiring a soft-muon tag on one of the jets.
