The standard model predicts the existence of the top quark. Current mass limits suggest that the top should decay into a real W and a b-quark. Tagging a heavy quark (bottom or charm) in any event can provide information that can uniquely discriminate between tt signal and background on an event by event basis. This is especially important for the lepton+jets channel in which one W decays leptonically and the other one decays into quarks. The authors present a study that optimizes the tagging of heavy quarks using a low transverse momentum muon within a jet (soft muon) as discriminant. This study selection criteria and background rejection will be discussed. The results of a search for tt to {mu}+jets+{mu}-tag will be presented.
