Neck emission of intermediate mass fragments in the reaction {sup 4}He + {sup 232}Th at 50MeV/A

To investigate intermediate mass fragment (IMF:3{le}Z{le}20) emission from the neck region during fission, the reaction {sup 4}He + {sup 232}Th at E/A = 50 MeV has been performed. An array of low threshold, high resolution detector telescopes together with two parallel plane position sensitive gas detectors has been used in an exclusive experiment to measure both in-plane and out-of-plane neck emission of IMFs. In addition, the IMFs have been isotopically identified by the time-of-flight technique. The angular distribution, energy spectrum, and Z distribution for IMFs emitted in the reaction have been measured. To probe the origin of the emitted IMFs, energy-angle correlations relative to the scission axis and the isotopic yields of the IMFs will be examined.
