Preparation and characterization of anchored dye molecules on TiO{sub 2} surface for effective solar cell
- Osaka Univ. (Japan); and others
Construction of dye-sensitized TiO{sub 2} solar cell was studied by using a ruthenium complex, cis-di(thiocyanato)-N,N{prime}-bis(2,2{prime}-bipyridyl-4,4{prime}-dicarboxylic acid)- ruthenium (II), as a photosensitizing molecule (dye) on TiO{sub 2} nanocrystallite films from the standpoint of knowing interfacial binding effect on photoenergy conversion efficiency. The ester-like linkage between dye molecules and TiO{sub 2} surface was observed as major on the film which shows relatively high photoenergy conversion efficiency. The improvement of cell properties such as open circuit cell voltage (V{sub oc}) can be explained by decrease in charge on bipyridine ligands of the dye molecule due to the formation of the covalent-like linkage.
