Composite molecular sieves comprising MCM-41 with intraporous ZSM-5 structures

Conference ·
OSTI ID:370760

A composite material comprising MCM-41 with intraporous ZSM-5 structures (designated as CMZ) has been prepared by a mild treatment of MCM-41 mesoporous molecular sieve. 27Al MAS NMR of these CMZ materials show a higher symmetry of the framework aluminum species. FTIR shows a vibration at 550 cm{sup -1} typically for ZSM-5 zeolites. In contract to MCM-41 CMZ is active in hexane cracking at 450{degrees}C. Micropores can be created dependent on the treatment conditions. In the worst case complete conversion of MCM-41 in ZSM-5 is achieved. Optimizing the preparation method can probably lead to a CMZ with a pore size distribution in the region of mesopores as well in the region of micropores.
