Naturally-occurring and anthropogenic organic acids play a determining role in controlling metal transport in groundwater systems. A significant part of these compounds include benzenecarboxylic acids which are mostly degradation products of humic and fulvic acids. Benzenecarboxylates may limit metal migration by forming surface ternary complexes. We measured the adsorption of Ph onto corundum in the presence of five different benzenecarboxylic: acids, as a function of pH at 25{degrees}C. The results of the experiments indicate that Pb-benzenecarboxylate co-adsorption is a function of the number of carboxyl groups on the benzene ring.
