An activated-carbon-fiber-cloth (ACFC) adsorption and cryogenic condensation system has been developed for recovery of toxic organic vapors for industrial point sources. Electrothermal desorption is used to regenerate the ACFC and concentrate the vapor before cryogenic condensation. Mass and heat transfer modeling of the ACFC fixed-bed during adsorption and electrothermal desorption processes will be described. Modeled results will be compared with experimental measurements for (1) transient vapor concentration profiles along the ACFC fixed-bed, (2) adsorption breakthrough curves, and (3) vapor concentration and temperature profiles during electrothermal desorption.
