  1. Utility PhotoVoltaic Group, Washington, District of Columbia (United States)
The Utility PhotoVoltaic Group (UPVG) is a nonprofit association of over 100 energy service providers (electric utilities and energy service companies) cooperating to develop photovoltaic power as a thriving commercial energy option for the benefit of its members and their customers. The U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) and UPVG are sponsoring an initiative named {ital TEAM-UP} that has co-funded 37 business ventures since 1995 that are resulting in more than 2,500 PV installations, totaling more than 7.5 megawatts of power in 30 states. The {ital TEAM-UP}{sup 1} ventures are significantly leveraging the federal funds. Under {ital TEAM-UP}, venture teams are investing four dollars for every dollar invested by the U. S. taxpayer. The UPVG programs are increasing the experience of electric utilities and their customers with photovoltaics and are stimulating growth in the demand for solar power. This paper describes these efforts and outlines the current status of the {ital TEAM-UP} program. {copyright} {ital 1999 American Institute of Physics.}
