Validation of a new simplified monthly cooling estimation method

This work consists of a systematic analytical validation of the Cooling Load Estimation (CLEST) Program, a FORTRAN implementation of the monthly cooling estimation method developed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. This validation work is a continuation of the project to develop a manual on cooling analysis to be published as a supplement to the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers` (ASHRAE) manual Passive Solar Heating Analysis. The validation has been done using the Building Energy Simulation Test (BESTEST) and Diagnostic Method developed by the International Energy Agency (IEA). It has been done in two phases: Phase 1 is the validation of annual results and it consists of comparison with the reference results published in the BESTEST manual. Phase 2 is the validation of monthly results and it consists of comparison with the results of the DOE-2 (version 2.1D) energy simulation program.
