This paper extends the investigation of thermal performance of straw bale walls, begun in a study by the authors presented as ASES 96. This paper investigates a midsized residence, thermally modeled (using CALPAS3) in three different climates, with both wood frame walls and straw bale walls. The energy use for space conditioning is shown, and improvements suggested to approach a smarter, more sustainable solution to the need for space conditioning.
