The simplex method: The computational state of the art

Conference ·
OSTI ID:35841

The remarkable, and unexpected improvements in the performance of simplex methods have continued over the last three years. In this talk we will discuss some of the ideas that have played a role in these improvements, including steepest-edge pricing, the dual simplex method, bound-shifting and related ideas for dealing with degeneracy, primal-dual and dual-primal basis crossover methods, and parallelism. We will also consider the implications of some of these advances for one particularly important related area of optimization, integer programming.
