Honeycomb barrier filters fabricated from mechanically packaged ceramic materials that can operate efficiently in high temperature environments, up to 1000 C, are fairly new in the coal-fired energy marketplace. However, through the developmental efforts of CeraFilter Systems Inc., a Limited Partnership between Foster Wheeler Development Corporation and CeraMem Separations Inc., a CeraMem{reg_sign} hot gas clean up ceramic monolithic membrane coated honeycomb barrier filter system is available for the various temperature and pressure range applications as applied to fluid bed combustion systems. These ceramic filters have undergone a variety of tests designed to determine materials of construction, physical arrangement requirements, gas flow considerations, material durability, filter cleanability, and other major characteristics to allow for the optimization of these hot gas cleanup filter systems when applied to fluid bed combustion systems. This paper will discuss the development of this ceramic filter system and its application to pressurized fluid bed combustion systems.
