A devolatilization model describing unsteady behavior of the coal particle during heating up and devolatilization were performed. The mathematical model enables analysis of the particle temperature profile, using different relations for thermal properties ({lambda} and c{sub p}), which can be constant or function of temperature. The temperatures of two coals, lignite and brown coal were determined by measuring of the center temperature during heating up and devolatilization. The coal particles were shaped at diameter 7, 8 and 10 mm. The measurement data were compared with mathematical model results using different values of coal thermal properties. The best fitting was obtained for constant thermal properties, for brown coal {lambda} = 0.20 (W/m.K) and c{sub p} = 1200 (J/kg.K) and for lignite {lambda} = 0.17 (W/m.K) and c{sub p} = 1100 (J/kg.K).
