Assessments of emerging technologies for wireless communications. Final report

Wireless technologies and services are the fastest growing markets within the telecommunications sector. This paper considers the development of those foundation technologies which can have the highest impact on an energy company`s telecommunications strategy. The primary focus here is on future component technologies rather than transceiver products, applications, or business case assessments. The intended reader is likely to be a member of an investment-minded energy company`s technical staff who is conducting due diligence. Energy companies have a long standing interest in wireless telecommunications systems for their internal communications and power system control. The general trend is for the energy industry to become more involved in the future as infrastructure providers, users and investors. This paper describes a wireless industry in a high growth and unstable state involving as it does a wide range of constituent operators, technologies and controversies.
