This paper describes a research program that was conducted to provide estimates of internal pipeline corrosion rates in inaccessible (offshore) locations from analyses of gas and water samples taken in accessible (onshore) locations. Effects of hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, oxygen, chlorides, and bicarbonates on corrosion rates of carbon steels in wet, low-flow and stagnant conditions were studied in the four-year program.
