A study has been carried out on sulfonated polymers for the control of typical deposits such as calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, iron oxide and silt found in cooling water systems. Included in this work are the key properties required by polymers to function in cooling water systems. The ferrous metal corrosion control properties of these polymers were compared in the presence of phosphonates and zinc. The findings from this work helps in the selection of appropriate polymer for cooling water treatment programs.
