Proposed study is the investigation of gas/solid two phase flow characteristics in the multi-nozzle type, entrained coal gasifier. The hydrodynamics of two phase flow is studied in the cold flow model, which is a similar version of the real 3 t/d BSU gasifier. FCC catalyst powder is utilized instead of pulverized coal as solid particle, which have similar physical properties to pulverized coal. Data are obtained for three different models of feeding section as a function of solid injection velocity and feed injection angle. In order to verify the flow pattern inside cold flow model, gas velocity and particle mass flux is measured at various radial and axial locations. The experimental data obtained in the investigation enables the determination of the effect of solid injection angle to the gas/solid two phase flow pattern inside gasifier. The inlet conditions of gas flow, such as ratio of premixed and annular gas flow rate, and particle feed rate are also varied to investigate the effect of inlet parameter to the flow pattern and mixing behavior of gas and solid. The results probably determine the optimum injection angle and optimum premixed/annual gas velocity for well-mixing of gas/solid inside entrained-type gasifier.
