In the charge-reservoir oxygen model, Am{sub 2{minus}z}Ce{sub z}CuO{sub 4} is predicted to be a {ital p}-type high-temperature superconductor, with T{sub c} around 24 K, provided the sample geometry is selected to minimize the effects of Am radioactive decay. The cuprate-plane model of high-temperature superconductivity cannot be sustained if Am{sub 2{minus}z}Ce{sub z}CuO{sub 4} superconducts and Cm{sub 2{minus}z}Th{sub z}CuO{sub 4} continues to not superconduct. {copyright} {ital 1999} {ital The American Physical Society}
