The current distribution in superconducting cable conductors with non-insulated strands

From the viewpoint of the current distribution at the steady state in the superconducting cable, the authors investigate the inter-strand coupling, which affects the fundamental properties of the conductor such as ac loss and current distribution. To begin with, they introduce an approximate analytical expression for uniforming of the current distribution in the superconducting cable. Next, they examine the dependence of the change of the current distribution on the main factors of the inter-strand coupling such as the inter-strand contact resistance and the structure of the conductor. Then, they obtain the useful information of the conductor design so as to uniform the transport current distribution. It is also shown that the intensity of the inter-strand coupling is estimated by measuring the change of the current distribution.
