Probing the WW{gamma} and WWZ vertices at the NLC {radical}s = 500 GeV e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} collider

The authors study the potential to make precision measurements of the WWZ{sup 0} and WW{gamma} vertices at a {radical}s = 500 GeV e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} collider. In particular, they study the processes {gamma}{gamma} {yields} W{sup +}W{sup {minus}} and e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} {yields} Z{sup 0}{nu}{anti {nu}}. They find that a {radical}s = 500 GeV e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} collider can be used to make a precise determination of the trilinear gauge boson couplings. Assuming an integrated luminosity of 2,000 pb{sup {minus}1}, in the reaction e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} {yields} {nu}{anti {nu}}{mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus}} {kappa}{sub Z} can be measured to 10% at the 95 % C.L. and {lambda}{sub Z} to {+-}0.07 at 95% C.L., {kappa}{sub {gamma}} to {sub {minus}0.07}{sup +0.21}, and {lambda}{sub {gamma}} to {sub {minus}0.10}{sup +0.08}. With appropriate cuts on M{sub {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus}}} {Delta}{kappa}{sub Z} = 0.4 and {Delta}{lambda}{sub Z} = 0.4 at 95% C.L. independent of deviations in {kappa}{sub {gamma}} and {lambda}{sub {gamma}}. In the process {gamma}{gamma} {yields} W{sup +}W{sup {minus}} {kappa}{sub {gamma}} could be measured to a few percent. Clearly, the NLC would be a valuable tool in testing the gauge boson couplings of the standard model, a sector so far poorly tested.
