Current status and activities of IGCC demonstration project in China
- Thermal Power Research Inst., Xi`an, Shaanxi (China)
A study on the technological feasibility of an IGCC demonstration project in China was completed. The great significance of IGCC to China`s electric power industry and environment was evaluated. The desired capacity of the IGCC demonstration plant was discussed to be 200--400MW. A comparison was made between different coal gasification processes and gasifiers of entrained flow bed type were chosen. The major candidates are the Texaco and Destec gasifiers which are oxygen blown and slurry fed, and the Prenflo and Shell gasifiers which are oxygen blown and dry pulverized-coal fed. In addition, the degree of integration of the air separation system; the application of the hot gas cleanup technology; the selection of gas turbine and steam system; and the recovery of sensible heat in the syngas were also discussed. After a preliminary screening, some options were determined to be worthy of further analysis based on considerations for technical sophistication, economics and maturity. The result of engineering pre-feasibility study and some up-to date activities conducted in China are briefly introduced as well.
