In the competitive environment, electric utilities have to locate market share to attract investment and to attain a stable customer base. The merger trend has accelerated to even include cooperatives and municipal utilities. This paper explains how to use system-engineering concepts to determine company valuations based on trading areas and customer trading patterns. These techniques have been used in other industries for several years. Such techniques lead to increase profits by attracting investment and customers through analysis of company strengths and weaknesses. Research previously published focus on the increase demand of market skill as each industry de-regulates. Here they build on previous research by incorporating available financial and network information to determine company value.
