The author discusses a model for the interaction of the solar wind, treated as a multicomponent plasma with different ion species streaming at different speeds, with an Alfven wave. The author uses the concept of a wave action invariant introduced by Isenberg and Hollweg to formulate a concept of conservation of wave action flux. This invariant allows the idea of steady flows within such multicomponent systems. The waves are able to couple with such steady flows.
