FeAl intermetallics possess good high temperature oxidation and corrosion resistance due to their ability to form protective Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} scales. Recently, the authors studied the effects of alloy coating grain size on the selective oxidation and scale spallation behaviors. The results indicated that a number of alloy coatings produced by magnetron sputter deposition possessed much better oxidation and scale spallation resistance than the as-cast alloys. The Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} scales that formed on the coatings showed a much finer grain size than those formed on the as-cast alloys. The adhesion between the oxide scales and metals was also improved due to the creep of metals and scales during oxidation. In the present work, FeAl intermetallic coatings were produced with the unbalanced magnetron sputter deposition technique. Cyclic oxidation tests were carried out to study the oxidation behavior of the coated and uncoated FeAl samples.
