The superconducting properties of multifilamentary Cu-Nb{sub 3}Sn superconductors prepared by the bronze technology much depend on the tin concentration in bronze and the heat treatment conditions. The relationship between the composition, structure and properties of the superconducting Nb{sub 3}Sn compound has received much research consideration, and yet many of the problems are still not fully understood, while the data available in the literature are often contradictory. Here of essential importance is the way of test specimen preparation. In the present experiments the authors investigated in situ Cu-Nb{sub 3}Sn wire specimens prepared from ternary Cu-Nb-Sn alloys. The microcomposite (in situ) superconductors have a peculiar microstructure (very thin, closely spaced ribbon-like filaments). They can be brought into equilibrium state with relative ease. Therefore, microcomposites appear very convenient for investigating the influence of the composition and heat treatment conditions on superconducting properties.
