Search for right-handed {ital W} bosons and heavy {ital W{prime}} in {ital p{bar p}} collisions at {ital {radical}s}=1.8 TeV
We report on a search for right-handed {ital W} bosons ({ital W}{sub {ital R}}) with mass greater than 200 GeV/{ital c}{sup 2}. We used data collected with the DO/ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron {ital p{bar p}} collider at {radical}{ital s}=1.8 TeV to search for {ital W}{sub {ital R}} decays into an electron and a massive right-handed neutrino {ital W}{sub {ital R}}{sup {plus_minus}}{r_arrow}{ital e}{sup {plus_minus}}{ital N}{sub {ital R}}. Using the inclusive electron data, we set mass limits independent of the {ital N}{sub {ital R}} decay: {ital m}{sub {ital W}{sub {ital R}}}{approx_gt}650 GeV/{ital c}{sup 2} and {ital m}{sub {ital W}{sub {ital R}}}{approx_gt}720 GeV/{ital c}{sup 2} at the 95{percent} confidence level, valid for {ital m}{sub {ital N}{sub {ital R}}}{lt}1/2{ital m}{sub {ital W}{sub {ital R}}} and {ital m}{sub {ital N}{sub {ital R}}}{lt}{ital m}{sub {ital W}{sub {ital R}}}, respectively. The latter also represents a new lower limit on the mass of a heavy left-handed {ital W} boson ({ital W}{prime}) decaying into {ital e}{nu}. In addition, limits on {ital m}{sub {ital W}{sub {ital R}}} valid for larger values of the {ital N}{sub {ital R}} mass are obtained assuming that {ital N}{sub {ital R}} decays to an electron and two jets. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
