Evidence of coupling between toroidal Alfv{acute e}n eigenmodes and kinetic Alfv{acute e}n waves
- Plasma Physics Laboratory, Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey 08543 (United States)
A 60 GHz microwave scattering system was used to search for kinetic Alfv{acute e}n waves when toroidal Alfv{acute e}n eigenmodes were excited by the energetic hydrogen ions produced during ion cyclotron resonance heating in the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR). Scattering signals from the expected location with the correct frequencies and wave wavelengths were observed. These data are presented as the first evidence for the coupling between toroidal Alfv{acute e}n eigenmodes and kinetic Alfv{acute e}n waves, indicating the existence of continuum damping and/or radiative damping. {copyright} {ital 1996 American Institute of Physics.}
