High power LHCD experiments in JET
The new Lower Hybrid Current Drive (LHCD) system has come into operation in JET in the 1994/95 experimental campaign. In this paper, results from high power experiments are presented. Power in excess of 7 MW and a maximum energy of 46 MJ have been coupled to divertor plasmas. Full current drive up to 3 MA has been achieved with LHCD alone; the CD efficiency increases with electron temperature up to 0.26 10{sup 20} A/W m{sup {minus}2}. Current profile control experiments up to 3 MA have resulted in suppression of the sawtooth activity. At low density peaked electron temperature profiles with {ital T}{sub {ital e}}(0) in excess of 8 keV, have been observed. Experiments of combined LH profile and high performance discharges (Hot-Ion H-mode) will be discussed. {copyright} {ital 1996 American Institute of Physics.}
