A self calibrating measurement of polarization dependent frequency shifts from Rb-{sup 3}He collisions

We have studied the frequency shift of the Rb EPR line due to the presence of nuclear polarized {sup 3}He. By measuring the resonance in a cylindrical cell oriented both parallel and perpendicular to a quantizing magnetic field, we used the classical geometric shift due to long range macroscopic fields to measure the {sup 3}He nuclear polarization. With these measurements we have calibrated the larger, geometry independent shift to 2.5% which can provide a transferable polarimetry standard.
