In previous numerical dilated MCHF work of these resonances small-scale elaborations of the wavefunction led to a collapse of the resonance width, though the resonance position continued to improve. In early basis-set work on He{sup -} 1s2s{sup 2} similar behavior was noted; Junker later found that the He{sup -} collapse could be avoided by improving the open-channel component of the wave-function. With the current numerical method we find, instead, that the closed-channel part is the key to preventing the collapse. The collapse of the width and its prevention are discussed, and an accurate calculation of the position and width of the two states (in progress) is reported.
