6S Photoionization of BaII and SrII ions

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society

The photoionization of BaII in the ground state and excited SrII has been studied for the region of photon energies from the photoionization threshold to the threshold of outer 5p{sup 6} (for BaII) and 4p{sup 6} (for SrII) subshells. The correlation influence of these np subshells on ionization of 6S electrons in both cases leads to great changes in the cross sections. The effect is most pronounced in the region of np{sup 6} {yields} ms,kd autoionization resonances. It is relatively stronger for SrII, due to the stronger intrashell interaction for smaller energy separation, than in BaII 4p{sup 6} and 6s subshells. The calculations have been performed in the framework of the RPAE. Different versions of this method for the case of one electron in the open shell are discussed.
