Photoionization of the 6s6p {sup 1}P{sub 1} excited state of barium: Comparison with theory in the threshold region

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:281449
Using a combination of linear and circular polarizations of the exciting and ionizing lasers, absolute cross sections to each of the final J=0, 1, 2 states for the photoionization of the 6p electron from the 6s6p {sup 1}P, excited state of Ba have been measured. The results show marked disagreement with single particle calculations but good agreement with R-matrix calculations. Thus, it is of interest to identify the crucial additions to the single particle model. MCHF calculations using perturbation theory to include interchannel coupling have been performed. The results show the importance of the 6s6p + 6p5d initial state correlation and the (6s{epsilon}d + 6p{sup 2}) {sup 1}D interchannel coupling.
