Very strong enhancement of shake up satellites following is photoionization in 2p-excited lithium atoms

Photoelectron spectra following 1s-inner shell photoionization in laser excited 1s{sup 2}2p {sup 2}P{sub 3/2} Li atoms were measured in the 90-100 eV photon energy range using the synchrotron radiation emitted by Super ACO. A very strong enhancement of the shake up correlation satellites corresponding to 1s3p {sup 2}P{sub 1/2,3/2} final ionic states has been found, leading to an overall relative intensity of the (n = 3) satellites higher than 65%, as compared to about 30% for Li atoms in the ground state. These new results confirm earlier observations of satellite enhancements in excited Na- and K-atoms and more recent calculations for Li atoms.
