It is shown that the generalized eikonal approximation method results in a simple algebraic formula for the scattering amplitude for light scattering by a uniform dielectric sphere. The formula provides deeper physical insights of light scattering. For examples, the diffraction and interference terms become apparent. Numerically the formula is compared with the Mie method and is shown to give a quick way to compute the intensity at large size-parameter for scattering up to 20{degrees}. These and some practical applications of the formula will be presented.
