Measurement of dielectronic recombination in He{sup +} ions

Dielectronic recombination (DR) was invest for He{sup +}, the simplest ion for which this process is possible. This work was done using the light-ion storage ring and electron cooler at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility. Resonant recombination yields resulting from 1s + e{sup -} {yields} n{ell}n{prime}{ell}{prime} transitions were observed with sufficient resolution (about 1 eV in the CM) to isolate and obtain cross sections for the 2s2p {sup 3}P{sup 0} and 2p{sup 2} {sup 3}P terms. The measured cross sections, integrated over the {triangle}n=1 2{ell}n{prime}{ell}{prime} states, agree in magnitude with theoretical calculations`. Additionally, {triangle}n=2 DR events associated with 3{ell}n{prime}{ell}{prime} intermediate states were observed, but no theoretical calculations for these states are presently available.
