Low energy electron scattering from cesium atoms - how good is the Breit-Pauli approximation?

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:281268
A previous semi-relativistic Breit-Pauli R-matrix calculation has been improved significantly by using a newly developed model potential approach and accounting for the dielectronic core polarization term. The new results are in excellent agreement with those obtained in a recent relativistic Dirac R-matrix approach, thus indicating the ability of the Breit-Pauli approximation to describe this process in a satisfactory way. Detailed results for the (6s6p){sup 3}P{sub 0,1,2}{sup o} and the (6p{sup 2}){sup 3}P{sub 0,1,2} resonances, and for the effect of including more than the lowest five target states in the close-coupling expansion, will be present.
