Repulsive wall potentials for He-(Ne,Ar,Kr,Xe) as inferred from differential cross sections

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:281256
We have obtained representations of the He-(Ne,Ar,Kr,Xe) ground state repulsive walls using model potentials optimized to fit published absolute differential cross section data for 500 and 1500 eV collisions. The HeNe potential, like the He{sub 2} potentials can be fit using the semi-empirical HFD-B form constrained to cross zero at the proper internuclear separation. For the heavier atoms, this approach is unsuccessful and superior fits are obtained using only the purely repulsive V(r) - A EXP [-{alpha}r - {beta}r{sup 2}] term of the HFD-B potential. Comparison of fitted potentials with previous results will be presented.
