Low-energy elastic differential cross sections for positron collisions with Ne and Ar

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society

Recent absolute differential cross section (DCS) measurements for elastic scattering have shown unexpected structure at intermediate collision energies for some e{sup +}-inert gas systems. It has been proposed that this structure is due to cross-channel coupling between the elastic channel and either the ionization or Ps formation channels. As a first step in attempting to account for the observed structure, we have extended our elastic e{sup +}-Ne calculations to 100 eV and have begun work on the e{sup +}-Ar system. Our calculations make use of the Distributed Positron Mode to include short-range bound-free correlation and ensure partial-wave convergence of the, DCS by means of a closure scheme based on the first Born approximation.
