Dielectronic recombination, ionization balance and radiative emission of atomic ions in high-temperature plasmas

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:281225

The dielectronic recombination rates for atomic ions have been calculated, taking into account electric-dipole transitions of the recombining ions. The relative importance of {Delta}n = 0 and {Delta}n {ne} 0 transitions is found to be significantly altered by the inclusion of autoionization channels associated with excited states of the recombining ion. The equilibrium charge-state distributions have been calculated, and the inclusion of transport processes will be discussed. Finally, the total rates of radiative emission have been evaluated, taking into account bound-bound, free-bound, free-free, and dielectronic-satellite transitions. Particular emphasis is given to the K{sub {alpha}} satellite spectra.
