Nonresonant two-photon pulsed field ionization studies of organosulfur molecules and radicals
- Ames Lab., IA (United States)
Threshold photoelectron (PE) spectra for CH{sub 3}SH, CH{sub 3}S, and SH have been measured using the nonresonant two-photon pulsed field ionization (N2P-PFI) technique. The rotationally resolved N2P-PFI-PE spectrum obtained for SH indicates that photoionization dynamics favors the rotational angular momentum change {Delta}N < 0 with the {Delta}N value up to {minus}3. The ionization energies for CH{sub 3}SH({tilde X}{sup 1}A{prime}), CH{sub 3}S({tilde X}{sup 2}E{sub 3/2}), and SH(X{sup 2}{Pi}{sub 3/2}), are determined to be 76,302{+-}5 cm{sup {minus}1} (9.4597{+-}0.0006 eV), 74,713{+-}20 cm{sup {minus}1} (9.2627{+-}0.0025 eV), and 84,058.3{+-}3 cm{sup {minus}1} (10.4213{+-}0.0004 eV), respectively. The spin-orbit splitting for CH{sub 3}S({tilde X}{sup 2}E{sub 3/2,1/2}) and SH(X{sup 2}{Omicron}{sub 3/2,1/2}) are found to be 256{+-}5 and 3788{+-}2 cm{sup {minus}1}, in agreement with previous measurements. The C-S stretching frequencies for CH{sub 3}S{sup +}({tilde X}{sup 3}A{sub 2}) and CH{sub 3}SH{sup +}({tilde X}{sup 2}A{double_prime}) are 731{+-}5 and 687{+-}3 cm{sup {minus}1}, respectively.
