Spectroscopic study of electrons emitted in Ar{sup {ital q}+} (8{le}{ital q}{le}16) on Ar at 2.3{ital q} keV collision energy
- Nuclear Science and Engineering Program, Ward Laboratory, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York 14853 (United States)
The spectra of electrons emitted in Ar{sup {ital q}+} on Ar (8{le}{ital q}{le}16) collisions at 2.3{ital q} keV were measured in the 30{endash}400-eV energy range. Ar{sup {ital q}+} ions were produced by the Cornell superconducting solenoid, cryogenic electron-beam ion source, and the emitted electrons analyzed by a {radical}{pi}/2 cylindrical electrostatic analyzer at 90{degree} to the ion beam. The observed spectral features are interpreted in terms of energy differences between total electronic energies of final states of the collision system [Ar{sup {ital q}+}+ (electron configuration)] + Ar{sup {ital r}+} and the Ar{sup {ital q}+}+ Ar ground-state total electronic energy. The measured spectra appear to have a common interpretation. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
