This paper is devoted to the calculation of the two-loop {ital O}({ital G}{sub {ital FM}}{sup 2}{sub {ital H}}) radiative corrections to the Higgs boson decay width {ital H}{r_arrow}{gamma}{gamma} for large values of the Higgs boson mass {ital M}{sub {ital H}} within the minimal standard model. The use of the equivalence theorem makes it possible to reduce the problem to the consideration of the physical Higgs boson field and the Goldstone bosons {ital w}{sup +},{ital w}{sup {minus}},{ital z}. We present analytical results for the various two- and three-particle absorptive parts of the two-loop contributions, and, using dispersive techniques, analytic results for all but one of the dispersive contributions. The relative corrections to the decay width are large because of strong cancellations between the {ital W} and top loops in the lowest order, but the absolute corrections are small and perturbatively under control. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
