MHD stability of heliotron/torsatron type non-axisymmetric torus is analyzed for current carrying plasmas. For highly peaked current profiles the current-driven ideal internal kink mode is destabilized and sawtooth type oscillation is expected even in heliotron/torsatron. The {ital L} to {ital H} transition similar to tokamak case might be triggered by the sawtooth, when the plasma current exceeds a threshold value. An {ital L} to {ital H} transition model based on the poloidal viscosity is shown. ELM (edge localized mode) type oscillation is expected by the nonlinear interchange mode in the edge plasma. {copyright} {ital 1995 American Institute of Physics.}
