Review on laser ICF physics
- Institute of Laser Engineering, Osaka University, Suita, Osaka 565 (Japan)
The recent developments of the laser ICF physics are reviewed in this paper. The high gain target design is important at present since the ignition experiments are planned and the ignition target parameters have to be determined by the fusion yield scaling for high gain implosion. The hydrodynamics instabilities and implosion symmetry are discussed in details, which are the key issues in the present ICF research. A new concept for igniting ICF plasmas, so called {open_quote}{open_quote}fast ignition{close_quote}{close_quote} was proposed by LLNL group recently. This concept is interested because the symmetry requirement will be reduced. The key physics discussed here on this concept is the relativistic laser plasma interactions. Finally, the present status of National Ignition Facility program and the related research works in U.S. are presented. {copyright} {ital 1995 American Institute of Physics.}
